From: Sedgefield Labour

Tony Blair whilst visiting Newton Aycliffe took time out to urge all voters to use their vote this Thursday in the Sedgefield by-election. Tony Blair said:

"On Thursday, we've got a chance to choose a new MP. It's quite a new experience, not least for me, and I want to make clear what's at stake in this election.

"Phil Wilson is a man who was brought up here, the son of a miner. He went to school here, got his first job here.

"Phil's roots here are deep and his passion for giving this area the very best is total. Phil's grandmother was an Aycliffe Angel. So it's appropriate we're in this garden dedicated to the Aycliffe Angels as the campaign enters the final stretch.

"Phil's spent this campaign listening to what voters have been saying.

"He knows we need to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.

"He knows we need to invest more in our schools and young people.

"He knows we need to invest in skills to make sure we keep attracting business and jobs here.

"He's the only candidate who'll do that. He's the only candidate with a real passion for our constituency.

"We need someone with those priorities and that commitment to give Sedgefield the very best as our MP.

"That's why it's so important we all get out and vote on Thursday."
